The main framework of Typing Tutorial
Main framework is split into several parts (Windows A, B, C, D and E).

These parts can be hidden. Use the option from program settings
"Which windows should be viewed?".
Window A
The main window contains text for copying. Font type and color can be set. Text will
automatically adjusted to the size of the window (End of text line will change position
depending on window size). Cursor points to current character and copied text
changes its color. Each mistake is visible under current text line (It is
usually shown in red). You can see the last two completed lines on which
you are working and preview the next part of the text.
Special signs used in text:
Space bar
Enter
Backspace
Tab
Typing tutorial offers the option of "color fingering" which changes the color
of each character depending on which finger finger is used. Click on
"Choose font and colors for text" for
more information.
Window B
Main checking of user activity is provided in upper oblong window. There
is a speed indicator and error rate indicator. These indicators change color
when the user passes the limit. When the limit is not reached the last lesson
must be repeated. Values under the limits are usually detected by the red color.
Some graphic templates use different colors.
Right part of this window contains:
Timer
- It shows time measured from the beginning of copying.
Current errors and allowed errors
- First value is the number of created mistakes and the second value is the number of
allowed mistakes. If there are more mistakes made than the allowed number, then
the error rate limit is not reached, and the lesson should be repeated.
Number of keystrokes and total
- First value informs about completed strokes, and the second value is the number of all strokes in copying text.
If text is loaded from a text file, then the last two lines are not available
("Current errors and allowed errors" and "Number of keystrokes and total").
Window C
Helping hands, and helping keyboard, are visible in the bottom part of main framework.
The Helping keyboard shows all characters included in the selected keyboard.
One key can contain up to 4 characters:
-
Standard press
(bottom left position - character is counted as 1 stroke)
-
Press together with key SHIFT
(top right position - character is counted as 2 strokes)
-
Press together with key right ALT
(bottom right position - character is counted as 2 strokes)
-
Press together with key right ALT and key SHIFT
(top left position - character is counted as 3 strokes)
One character can be typed using a combination of several keys. There
is also the possibility to type one character as sequence of several key
presses.
For example Czech character Ř is created in two steps. Left SHIFT
together with "ˇ" and right SHIFT together with "r" (It is 4
strokes).
If option "Use colored keyboard. Each color belongs to one finger." is
chosen, then all keys will change color depending on which finger is used.
Window D
Helping hands can be visible in the bottom part of the main framework.
An indication is given of which finger to use for the next character.
If option "Use colored keyboard. Each color
belongs to one finger." is chosen, then the helping fingers are
changing color for active fingers.
Window E
This is a graph of your present typing speed. It is a helping window which enables the
user to monitor typing speed. The graph is shifting to the left, therefore it shows
only the last time interval. Each value is created as average speed from the last
10 strokes. If your typing speed is even, then the graph points are on the same level. If your typing speed was uneven then graph points will be shown on many different
levels.
